KWAZULU NATAL | Namaqua National ParkAs if by magic a tapestry of brilliant colours unfold enticingly along the winding roads of the Namaqua Game Reserve. Butterflies, birds and long-tongued flies dart around among the flowers, seemingly overwhelmed by the abundance and diversity. Every turn in the road paints an unforgettable picture: valleys filled with Namaqualand daisies and other spring flowers that pulse with sheer energy and joy. During early August and September, seemingly overnight, the dusty valleys of Namaqualand are transformed into a wonderland, carpeted with wildflowers.
With its winter rainfall, Namaqualand is home to the richest
bulb flora of any arid region in the world and more than a 1 000
of its estimated 3 500 plant species are found nowhere else on
earth. |

LIMPOPO | Marakele National ParkMarakele is set in the south-western section of the Waterberg Mountains and is home to some rare yellowwood and cedar trees and the world’s largest colony of Cape Vultures. The big game species flourish in this transitional zone between South Africa’s dry and moist regions where the highest ramparts of the Waterberg escarpment meet the acacia savannah. Get close to nature and enjoy the novelty of staying in an unfenced safari camp.
The ten furnished tents, sleeping four each, are situated on the
scenic banks of the Matlabas River. All tents are self-contained
with fully equipped kitchen and barbeque facility. The park is
only 250km from Johannesburg and is accessible by normal sedan
and high clearance vehicles. Certain parts of the park are only
accessible by 4x4. |
